Music is something I am very thankful. I have always been a lover of music. Listening to it, that is!
There is something, something too deep to describe, about music. The way the most raw, honest and gut-wrenching words when put to music can express exactly how you feel in that very moment. Words you might never dare to say, but when they are combined with the melody of instruments you are given courage to shout it from the mountain tops.
Music can breathe life into a dry and weary soul.
It can also be the cause of why your soul is dry and weary to begin with.
Music has been around forever. Not as a statement piece. But really, FOREVER!
Satan himself was an angel of worship. Music was wrapped into his soul.
Just another reminder for me, as I journey through my days and as the trails come that the music I listen to is important. It's important for my heart to hear words of life. It's important for my soul to be showered with words of The Life Giver.
I recently bought the debut record of Colton Dixon. You may not be familiar with him... Colton was on American Idol last year. He was my favorite from the beginning and no it was not just because he has amazing hair! :) As the season progressed Colton would regularly say and do things that shared his faith in Jesus. He was not ashamed to rock out on stage in front of millions as he worshiped the Lord. The words he spoke were always ones that were uplifting and encouraging even if he did not receive such words. When Colton was eliminated (far too early in the competition if you ask me!) he made it known that he had every intention to release a Christian Rock album. I got excited!
Well he did just that! I bought the album and was honestly blown away! The entire album from beginning to end is amazing. The lyrics to the songs have brought life to my weary soul and I mean that very literally. I am thankful. There is one song in particular that has been on repeat for the last 2 weeks. It is called You Are.
When I can’t find the words to say how much it hurts
You are the healing in my heart
When all that I can see are broken memories
You are the light that’s in the dark
Chorus:
You are the song,
You are the song I’m singing.
You are the air,
You are the air I breathe in.
You are the hope,
You are the hope I needed.
Ohhooohh
You are
And when my circumstance leaves me with empty hands.
You are the provider of my needs.
When all my dirtiness has left me helpless.
You are the rain that washes me.
Chorus: (2x)
You are the song
You are the song I’m singing.
You are the air,
You are the air I breathe in.
You are the hope,
You are the hope I needed.
Ohhhhooohh
(x2) If I had no voice,
If I had no tongue,
I would dance for you like the rising sun.
And when that day comes and I see your face.
I will shout your endless glorious praise.
Chorus: (2x)
You are the song I’m singing.
You are the air,
You are the air I breathe in.
You are the hope,
You are the hope I needed.
