This portion of scripture is intense. Could you imagine Jesus standing before you, looking you in the eyes with His eyes that burn with love and pierce the very depths of your heart, and telling you this? It's one thing to already "know" Satan has it out for you but to have the Son of Man tell you Satan demanded from me that he destroy you.
However, I'm really glad Luke but this conversation in because it is really telling of the truth that Jesus is for us and not against us.
Sequence of events:
1) Satan demands to destroy Peter
2) Jesus agrees and gets on His knees and prays for Peter
3) Jesus prays - that Peter's faith would not fail, but when it does that he would quickly turn back to the Lord and be a witness to his brothers (other believers)
4) Jesus tells Peter and Peter gets defensive and declares his allegiance
5) Peter fails...
Unlike Peter, I probably would have run away and not even been given the opportunity to deny Jesus. At least Peter stuck around.
But this is our reality as believers. We are moving targets for Satan. But really we have very little to fear as the Son of God is constantly praying for us. If only we could comprehend the fact that our biggest prayer partner is Jesus himself!

We are more than conquerors not because of anything we do but because of who Jesus is.
