Music, to awaken the soul

I love music. There is something that comes alive within me when I listen to music. Music speaks...

I have a hard time with worship music sometimes though. I know, I know, so not Christian of me. But honestly there are times on Sunday mornings were I have to push myself to worship. It's not because the music isn't good (we have an amazing worship team!!!) it's that my heart connects to different music.

The louder the better. The more down beats the better. The rawer (made up word?) the better. I love it when as you sing the song you can feel your heart physically stir, goose bumps raise on your arms, and you go to that deep place. That raw place where the sometimes ugly truths come out.

I am a huge fan of the musician John Mark McMillan. His music speaks to me. His raw, honest, and raspiness settle deep in my heart. I want to share with you an amazing song - 'Death In His Grave'. Below I have the lyrics written out. Take a minute and listen. Really listen to what this song says.

~Nicole

Though the earth cried out for blood
Satisfied her hunger was
Her billows calmed on raging seas
For the souls of men she craved

Sun and moon from balcony
Turned their head in disbelief
Their precious Love would taste the sting
Disfigured and disdained

On Friday a thief
On Sunday a King
Laid down in grief
But awoke with keys
Of Hell on that day
The first born of the slain
The Man Jesus Christ
Laid death in his grave

So three days in darkness slept
The Morning Sun of righteousness
But rose to shame the throes of death
And over turn his rule

Now daughters and the sons of men
Would pay not their dues again
The debt of blood they owed was rent
When the day rolled a new

On Friday a thief
On Sunday a King
Laid down in grief
But awoke holding keys
To Hell on that day
The first born of the slain
The Man Jesus Christ
Laid death in his grave

He has cheated
Hell and seated
Us above the fall
In desperate places
He paid our wages
One time once and for all
