Adventures in the Windy City

Well hello!  Yes, I am still alive :)  I have so much to share!

Today's post comes from last week's adventure in a new town... Chicago!

On Saturday, November 10th my best friend and I got to the airport at a unholy hour of 5:20 a.m.  I realized the night before that I hadn't flown in 4 years and found myself a little nervous.  Mainly excited nerves but this adventure was a big one....

1) This adventure was mine and Gracia's first time on a "Grown Up" trip together.
2) The point in going to Chicago was for me to have my Visa Appointment at the French Consulate.
3) We had no idea where we were going and had to manage figuring out the public transportation.
4) I was a stinking hot mess of emotions regarding my appointment.
5) And Gracia had to figure out how to not kill me because of the before mentioned. :)

We had a great time traveling around the city and doing all the tourist things!  We stayed with a couple who are friends with my sister and brother-in-law.  They were amazing and we really enjoyed our stay.

My appointment on Monday was... well really the only word to describe it is odd. I was expecting an appointment more like an interview but instead I walked into a small, quiet room with some chairs, a few other people and one woman sitting behind I room length desk surrounded by bullet proof glass.  When it was my turn she called my name, through a intercom system she asked for my documentation.  As she looked through the papers and typed stuff into her computer she looked up once and asked my how long I wanted to stay in France. I answered (about 1 year) and she typed some more. Then she asked for my money, got my finger prints, took my picture and I was done.

Free to go with no idea when I would hear from them.  But it was done and I could breathe a little better once I left the room! Gracia and I went on our way seeing more sights and attempted to not freeze to death :)

I returned to my computer around 4 on Monday only to see a concerning email requesting MORE documentation about my missionary agency!  I panicked but it turned out to be a really easy fix.  Thank you Lord!  By Tuesday morning all the documents were in to the Consulate and my file was complete.

We left the interesting Chi Town Tuesday evening and it was back to the grind Wednesday morning!  Now let the picture overload begin...
