I don't talk politics often. Politics make me nauseous.
This election was particularly hard on me, and many in our nation.
As I look at the state of our nation, my heart weeps.
Last week my dad asked me if I was going to vote. Although nothing about this election sat well in my heart I knew that I would, that I had to vote. But the answer that I gave him surprised me. The response was of one that I had not really given much thought to before. It came from my heart, my spirit.
Yes, yes I am going to vote, because I can. There are billions of people around the world who would do ANYTHING to have the freedom to vote. To have a voice regarding what their government does and is about. To speak out against their governments. Against the many oppressive governments that holds billions of people in desperation. I am voting and I hope that my vote honors God.
This morning you could feel the heaviness of our country. It was tangible. The air was filled with uncertainty. I didn't know exactly how to feel only because I was not surprised at the outcome of the election. As I talked to the Lord about it very clearly Holy Spirit brought Psalm 2 to my mind. As I read it I was filled with hope. Hope and understanding that God is sovereign always and forever.
Psalm 2
1 Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
3 “Let us break their chains
and throw off their shackles.”
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
3 “Let us break their chains
and throw off their shackles.”
4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.
5 He rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 “I have installed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.”
the Lord scoffs at them.
5 He rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 “I have installed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.”
7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:
He said to me, “You are my son;
today I have become your father.
8 Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will break them with a rod of iron,
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
today I have become your father.
8 Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will break them with a rod of iron,
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry
and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry
and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
